Timothy "Shaun" Wicker Obituary

Timothy “Shaun” Wicker died on Dec 24th at age 74 at Montevista Rehab and Skilled Care in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born in Lawton to Dr. Walter Wicker, Jr. (a physician in Lawton for many years) and Betty Virginia Wicker. His family attended Centenary Methodist Church during his childhood, and their youth leader Whit Ozier influenced him to become a Methodist church pastor.

After graduating from Lawton High School in 1965, he spent a year at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, where he met and married Marsha Leavitt. While working as a chef at Marriott Hotel in Dallas, his son Patrick was born and he then returned to school, completing his undergraduate degree at North Texas State University in 1976. He then began his Master of Theology studies at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, completing his degree in 1980 while pastoring Methodist churches in north Texas. He served churches in Coppell, Roanoke, Honey Grove, and Boyd. While serving in Roanoke, he and Marsha became the legal guardians of Thibeaux Lincecum, who lived with their family for most of his childhood. He returned to Lawton in 1989 and pastored Liberty Heights Christian Church and Bethel United Methodist Church, before moving to Talihina, OK to pastor the Methodist church there.

Shaun loved leading church services and singing old hymns - especially during Easter and Christmas - and attended all kinds of churches as often as he could after he retired. He was the ultimate extrovert, happiest when sharing a laugh with others. He also had a remarkable ability to show compassion and care to those who were broken and vulnerable. Though he spent many years in Texas, he was proud to be from Oklahoma and loved his home town of Lawton. He was also proud of his Irish heritage and would always celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with gusto.

He is survived by his son Patrick Wicker, who currently pastors Bognor Vineyard Church in Bognor Regis, England with his wife Jodi - they have a 12 year old daughter, Sophie. He is also survived by sisters Terry Scott of Burkburnett, TX and Nancy Davison of Lawton, and former spouses Marsha Livingston of Mesa, AZ, and Nancy Wicker of Lawton.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 5th at 10am at Centenary United Methodist Church in Lawton (704 SW D Ave), and you are welcome to watch live on the Centenary Facebook page.
